Q. What if I am over 50 but my travelling companion is not?
A. If one member of your group is over 50, the entire group is welcome to join an Elder Expeditions trip.
Q. What if I am not athletically inclined or have never done very many sports?
A. As long as you are reasonably fit and are willing to try something new, our guides will be happy to work with you until you feel comfortable with our activities. Recent studies have shown that an increasing number of people fifty and older are choosing vacations that feature adventure and participation sports.
Q. How safe are the activities that are included in your trips?
A. Anyone, including skilled athletes, incurs some measure of risk when engaging in any sport. Your safety is a primary consideration in all Elder Expeditions trips. Our local guides, all of whom are experienced and skilled, are ever mindful of your personal safety. If, after instruction, they believe that a participant will be unable to safely engage in a particular activity, they will advise that participant of the perceived risk. In extreme cases, our guides are authorized to deny participation if the guide believes that a participant is likely to injure him / herself or cause an injury to other participants.
Q. In the event of an injury, is medical care available?
A. In all of our locations, emergency medical care is readily available.
Q. Are the sports competitive in nature. Will I feel pressured to surpass my comfort level?
A. Elder Expeditions’ goal is to give our participants a stress free environment where they can have a fun and memorable experience. Elder Expeditions strives to provide opportunities where participants can engage in new activities as well as those which, perhaps are not new, but in which the participant may not have engaged for a number of years or has only sporadically engaged in recent years. At all times each participant is urged to move within his / her own comfort zone.
Q. What if there is an activity included in the itinerary that I do not wish to do?
A. Elder Expeditions’ hopes that participants will take advantage of all of the opportunities offered by each trip. However, there is no coercion. If you do not feel comfortable with a particular activity, you may “sit it out.” In this event, the local hosts will attempt to offer an alternative (for which there will likely be an additional fee). Elder Expeditions, however, cannot guarantee that unplanned alternatives will always be available. Elder Expeditions cannot give refunds or discounts where a participant chooses not to partake in an activity included on the itinerary.
Q. What about travel arrangements to the point where we are met by the local hosts?
A. Elder Expeditions encourages its clients to work with their personal travel agents in order to secure travel arrangements to the tour meeting point. We at Elder Expeditions stand ready to answer your questions that you may have about travel arrangements.
Q. Do your trips include any time for sightseeing and shopping?
A. Yes. All Elder Expeditions’ trips include opportunities to visit local points of interests such as castles, abbeys, world heritage sites and locations of historical significance, to name just a few. Every trip includes opportunities for shopping. Our local hosts are generally willing to try to accommodate special requests.
